Set the mood: preferably the setting should be without additional lights.
The experience step-by-step: Firstly, the user is seeing one of the emotions and the name of the emotion they are seeing at the mouse position, after clicking the mouse the emotion changes, after making the full circle the emotions start to loop. In the ideal version of the experience the user would choose emotions they felt strongly connected to and/or found interesting and would like to look at it a little more. Some people might experience these emotions differently, this is purely my interpretation. Actually, I would love to hear how people see their visualisations of emotions in case they see them differently.
In this project I tried to recreate minimal visualisations of the emotions I felt and the ones I clearly understand how I feel them in my brain. I’ve always struggled to explain how I feel or what I feel clearly to other people/doctors/parents.
On the technical side of it, it’s very easy — a lot of sine waves and experiments. To be honest, I just wanted to play around with waves, maybe create an acoustic modulation or the visualisation of the physical term ‘interference’, but in the process of doing it I found it much more personal to me than I expected it to be.
I still don’t know what’s the right way to go with the creation process, but personally, starting out with a blank canvas without any concept in mind and having only tools in hand (in this case its p5.js) seems to be the most interesting approach with more interesting results.
